From April 2010 Australian energy regulators introduced a Voluntary Energy Rating Labelling Program for swimming pool pumps under the Equipment Energy Efficiency (E3) program.
The rules for this Program were updated in November 2010 to make it optional for participating suppliers to test and report noise levels for their pump-units.
Suppliers of swimming pool pumps can now choose to label their products based on their energy efficiency using an energy rating label. This new voluntary labelling program will enable customers to identify and choose to purchase the more energy efficient pool pumps.

The Equipment Energy Efficiency Program (E3) is also in the process of developing a consultation regulatory impact statement (RIS) on mandatory energy rating labelling and minimum energy performance standards (MEPS) for swimming pool pumps.
You may also find it useful to look at earlier key background reports that have been released on swimming pool pumps during the process of developing the standard and this voluntary program.
