Summary

This study was undertaken by Energy Efficient Strategies, for the South Australian Office of Energy, which managed the project on behalf of the Energy Management Task Force of the Australian and New Zealand Minerals and Energy Council (ANZMEC).

This report examines the feasibility of developing a number of end use energy databases for each of the major sectors of the economy. The principal aim of the database is to provide and compile information which will enable better judgements to be made about energy efficiency trends within the economy.

The major uses of energy end use data are likely to include:

compilation of historical energy consumption and efficiency data for use in national and international comparisons;
identification of current trends in energy efficiency and energy service delivery by subsector, State and, perhaps in some cases, region;
provision of input data for econometric and end-use forecasting of energy and energy service requirements;
cost benefit analysis and impact assessment of policies and programs which aim to maximise energy efficiency or reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
